Cristiano Melli

composer

Born in Campo Grande in 1980, Cristiano Melli is a Brazilian composer currently based in The Hague, Netherlands. Having studied with Almeida Prado, Osvaldo Lacerda and Jocy de Oliveira in Brazil, he pursued his studies in the Royal Conservatorium of The Hague, where he got his Bachelor and Master degree in Composition, with Cornelis de Bondt, Gilius van Bergeijk, Yannis Kyriakides, Peter Adriaansz, Calliope Tsoupaki and Kathinka Pasveer as teachers. With a deep interest in the relations between Performance and Ritual, his works often blend the boundaries between Theater and Music, creating Acts that are both innovative and exciting.

Besides having his own music performed in festivals and venues around Europe, he worked as assistant dramaturgist, teacher and lecturer at the worldwide acclaimed “aus LICHT,” a joint production between the Dutch National Opera, Holland Festival and Royal Conservatorium The Hague in which selections from Stockhausen’s LICHT were premiered as a cycle. Future projects include his own cycle “A BREATH OF AIR” with international artists, as well as other planned performances. Some of his works were published by Periferia Music Editions, in Barcelona (Spain).

“Diving into the rhetoric of Performance, and its social and artistic relations between audience and artist, my research aims in opening new possibilities in what the public feels during the rite of a concert, exploring what each person brings into an Act, be it on stage, in social media interactions, and the attending community.”
