transfer

BY PETER VAN BERGEN

The focus of this research is on musical improvisation and performance in complex ensemble arrangements with computers and live electronics. In “Transfer”, internationally renowned artists and scientists work together with LOOS artists in presentations from the LOOS Performers Lab with the goal being the transfer of knowledge and skills.

The aim of “Transfer” is to deepen innovative concepts and contents with regard to improvisation within interdisciplinary expressive forms. The assignment for the research is to research and present technology and performance - in the broadest sense - together. The starting point is the internationally acclaimed Evan Parker Electro Acoustic Ensemble (EP-EAE), consisting of well-known musical improvisers, half of whom are also scientists. With “Transfer”, we will initiate a dialogue / exchange in practice on questions and outcomes of the IOM-AIM research in relation to "Practice Based Artistic Research" within the EP-EAE and related investigations of improvisers who are members of the ensemble.

Members of the ensemble that will be invited: Dr. Evan Parker (UK) - Honorary Doctorate University of Huddersfield (UK); Dr. Sten Sandell (SE) - University of Gothenburg (SE); Dr. Matthew Wright (UK) - Canterbury Christ Church University (UK); Dr. Adam Linson (UK) - University of Stirling (Scotland) ;Mark Nauseef (US) - Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg (DE); Paul Lytton (UK-BE). The method will be as follows: elaboration of research question by LOOS Performers Lab (see appendix 4 for research questions), specific members of the EP-EAE come to The Hague artistic research musicians EP-EAE in collaboration with the LOOS Performers Lab, EP-EAE musicians give public workshops / lectures in Studio LOOS or elsewhere in The Hague LOOS Performers Lab and EP-EAE musicians give concerts together in The Hague and internationally.
