transmit<>dissolve

by Luca Tornato Serafini

transmit<>dissolve is an art installation which plays with the consequences of image capturing and broadcasting.  With the advent of the electronic image, the human senses became expanded. Eyes can reach the entirety of the  planet, the explorable universe and the insides of the body, (a)live. The effects of this phenomenon, commercially  available to anyone, do not engage in the actual distortion of image itself. Transmission of image relies on simplification, since a camera and a TV cannot reproduce reality with detail. What happens if the same image is reproduced  and transmitted over and over? What is portrayed is not reality but, an electronic dissolution of it.

The installation is composed of three TVs and three cameras. The first one is pointed at a print with the piece name  "transmit<>dissolve", where the audience can stand and see its own image being reproduced in the TVs and recaptured by old surveillance cameras. The  final image, exhibited in the central TV gets almost unrecognizable, amplified by the noise created by the camera's sensors and screens.
