Jan Trützschler von Falkenstein
In this concert Jan is going to perform his new piece 'Hexagon' for live computer processes (SuperCollider & Manta). Hexagon is realised with extensive use of higher level parameter control by means of interpolating self organising maps. It features a mixture of synthetic and concrete sounds to create textures while navigating sonic spaces. In a second set Jan might explore possibilities of using mobile phone in an open concert setting. For this piece we're still looking for participants. Participants require to have an iPhone or iPod touch. Please drop a mail if you're interested in participating beta@sampleAndHold.org
Jan is active in different areas: composition, live electronics, sound installation, performance and software development. He seeks for ways to set his music in different contexts and perspectives, while often focusing on one material, topic or (ritual) procedure. He has been working, for instance, on a series about the apparatus and on a series which uses paper as the main sound source. Currently he is investigating the use and usability of self-organising maps for sound synthesis and sound organisation. The past few years he has been active as a SuperCollider developer, which has resulted in many contributions to the software. In 2007 he organised the second international SuperCollider Symposium in The Hague. His music has been performed across Europe and at international festivals such as the MusicAcoustica Beijing, Spark Minneapolis, ICMC Belfast, Montreal and ISCM World New Music Days. Jan studied Media Design at Bauhaus University, Weimar, with a focus on sound installation. In 2005 he graduated from the Institute for Sonology, Royal Conservatory The Hague (MMus). Currently he is pursuing a PhD in Composition at the University of Birmingham. His activities have been supported by the Gaudeamus Foundation, the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds and the Arts& Humanities Research Council.
Koenraad Ecker
I'm a guitarplayer/laptop musician from Belgium, currently living in Amsterdam. I like to make & consume music of a lot of different flavors, ranging from electronic music, improv, post-rock, contemporary classical to minimal music. As a guitarist/laptop musician I'm active in a variety of projects such as : Stray Dogs/Legoman (post-rock-electronic audiovisual performance with Swiss visual artist VJ Legoman), Ecker/Van Hek (minimalist soundsculptures w/ Sanne Van Hek), Lumisokea (improvised electronic music w/ Andrea Taeggi), Eject the No (w/ Onno Govaert, Glenn Gaddum & Sanne Van Hek), Nieuw Ensemble (contemporary classical music), Bansuri Collectif (jazz/ improv), Nagg (Jos Zwaanenburg's audiovisual project),... My solowork is done under the monikers Audio.Damage & muteBoy, in which I combine guitar, cello, field recordings and electronics into a live- improvised performance. Recently, I started doing some work as an audio designer (making soundtrack music for architects, visual artists,...), spending a lot of time in studios, a thing I like doing very much. Throughout the years, I've had the opportunity to perform in places like Bimhuis (NL), North Sea Jazz Festival (NL, Maus Habitos (PT), Oslo Jazz Festival (NO), De Singel (B), De Pianofabriek (B), Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ (NL), Kalkar (GER).
