Persephone ZOOMED 2

  • Studio LOOS 20B De Constant Rebecqueplein Den Haag, ZH, 2518 RA Netherlands (map)

Developed during the first COVID-19 quarantine time, PERSEPHONE is conceived as a 10-episodes webseries interdisciplinary production using the artistic and technological possibilities available during the period. This concept infiltrates all its practical aspects, giving the opportunity for creative solutions to the huge task of bringing a multimediatic online work to light.

Currently in production stage, PERSEPHONE depicts the greek goddess just before leaving her Hades stay, preparing for her yearly travel to Earth. She talks with her Mother Demeter, Hades presence is felt (his own feelings about letting her go also roaming around), and Cerberus lovely watches over the path we all will go through. Persephone is dressed with the hopes and fears of throwing herself into the unknown, a blessed night of open possibilities and new experiences, Spring for Gods and Humans alike.

The music and images for this production come from an intense feedback between the artists involved. Instead of fixed scores and hierarchical rules, the material from which the episodes will be made come from guided improvisations highlighting the strong points of every individual. A first outcome for gathering this raw material was PERSEPHONE ZOOMED 1, live streamed by Studio LOOS in June 26, 2020 (currently available in LOOS
channel
).

The music in this spin-off, created during the rehearsals and following a non-strict structure, is the first source for the electronic music of the final webseries. PERSEPHONE ZOOMED 2 (currently in production and recording stage) was commissioned by Stichting LOOS, and its development will provide the last video and musical material for the final PERSEPHONE webseries.

With concept, music and direction by Cristiano Melli, PERSEPHONE counts with Frank Scheffer as Visual Director, Peter van Bergen (Contrabass clarinet) as Hades, Christina Schoenbach (Soprano) as Persephone, and Elisabeth Lusche (Trumpet) as Demeter.
