Improvisatie fascineert saxofonist Peter van Bergen; hij wil er zelfs op promoveren. Delen van zijn research zijn morgen te horen in het Bimhuis; het publiek krijgt invloed op het werk DMMEEKG: Dat Moet Maar Eens Een Keer Gedaan.
Saxofonist Peter van Bergen is in de muziek een grote meneerop het snijvlak van compositie en improvisatie. Als schepper van een eigenzininlg oeuvre verkent hij al decennia de grenzen van spontane en bedachte klanken, een wereld die hij ook theoretisch wil doorgronden. Van Bergen werkt op dit moment aan een proefschrift, bestaande uit tekst en nieuw artistiek werk, waarin hij op basis van practice-based artiristic research, een nieuwe richting in wetenschappelijk onderzoek, een antwoord probeert te formuleren op de vraag wat improvisatie nu precies is. Hij hoopt het nog dit jaar aan de Vrije Universiteit Brussel af te ronden bij Kathleen Coessens, hoogleraar filosofie en directeur van het Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel. Improvisation, interactivity, instability: artistic transformations is de titel.

Saxophonist Peter van Bergen is a great man in music at the intersection of composition and improvisation. As the creator of an idiosyncratic oeuvre, he has been exploring the boundaries of spontaneous and invented sounds for decades, a world that he also wants to fathom theoretically. Van Bergen is currently working on a dissertation, consisting of text and new artistic work, in which he tries to formulate an answer to the question of what exactly improvisation is on the basis of practice-based artistic research, a new direction in scientific research. He hopes to complete it this year at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel with Kathleen Coessens, professor of philosophy and director of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Improvisation, interactivity, instability: artistic transformations is the title.
